MOU's with Partner Organisations

MOU with Inbound Tour Operators Council of NZ

(The following information is based on the MOU information shown on the ITOC website at www.itoc.org.nz/nzmtc.asp )

The Inbound Tour Operators Council of New Zealand is a Trade Association representing the New Zealand inbound tourism industry and tourism industry operators. It is made up of Inbound Tour Operators (Full Members) and their suppliers (Allied Members). ITOC has represented the interests of inbound tourism for thirty years, and today its Full and Allied members collectively handle most of New Zealand's visitor arrivals. ITOC plays a vital and supportive role in the expansion of New Zealand tourism at the 'sharp end' of our overseas marketing.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the NZ Mâori Tourism Council & ITOC was signed in August 2006 at the Joint ITOC/NZ Tourism Industry Conference in Wellington.

Under the terms of this Memorandum of Understanding and Best Practice, both parties agree to endorse best practice standards on a fair and reasonable basis and to work progressively towards the goal of enabling greater engagement of visitors with Mâori culture.

Key projects agreed on include:

  • Reciprocal website links

  • Contribute to each others conferences where appropriate

  • Develop and maintain a Mâori culture category on the ITOC website

  • Provide basic organisational information to help inform each organisation’s constituent through their respective newsletters, websites, directories and other publications

  • Facilitate opportunities for constituent members of each organisation to benefit from each other

MOU with Ministry of Social Development (MSD)

The Ministry of Social Development, Te Manatu Whakahiato Ora, provides strategic social policy advice to the New Zealand Government and provides social services to more than one million New Zealanders. The MSD is concerned with achieving excellent employment and social outcomes for New Zealanders by ensuring people achieve economic independence throughout their working lives so that they are able to contribute to society and have a sense of belonging. Partnerships with Maori organisations form an important part of Work and Income’s social development approach with regional service delivery being an essential operating requirement.

The Memorandum of Understanding between NZ Mâori Tourism Council & ITOC was signed in February 2006 in Wellington and is an expression by both organisations to work together so that:

  • Each parties’ respective national strategies are given practical effect through the delivery of support services at a regional level by their respective regional organisations to Maori in tourism;

  • Coordinated support and encouragement is provided to the parties’ respective regional organisations to work together to assist Maori to achieve sustainable jobs and enterprises in the tourism sector;

  • Project investment is able to be provided at a regional level through the Enterprising Communities Grants and Local Industry Partnership Programmes; and

  • Regions share information on their investment successes and learning experiences in order to foster a culture of best practise in the regions.
