MOU with Inbound Tour Operators Council of NZ

The
Inbound Tour Operators Council of New Zealand is a Trade Association
representing the New Zealand inbound tourism industry and tourism
industry operators. It is made up of Inbound Tour Operators (Full Members) and their suppliers (Allied
Members). ITOC has represented the
interests of inbound tourism for thirty years, and today its Full and
Allied members collectively handle most of New Zealand's visitor
arrivals. ITOC plays a vital and supportive role in the expansion of New
Zealand tourism at the 'sharp end' of our overseas marketing.
The
Memorandum of Understanding between the NZ Mâori Tourism Council &
ITOC was signed in August 2006 at the Joint ITOC/NZ Tourism Industry
Conference in Wellington.
Under the
terms of this Memorandum of Understanding and Best Practice, both parties
agree to endorse best practice standards on a fair and reasonable basis
and to work progressively towards the goal of enabling greater engagement
of visitors with Mâori culture.

Reciprocal

to each others conferences where appropriate

Develop
and maintain a Mâori culture category on the ITOC website

Provide
basic organisational information to help inform each organisation’s
constituent through their respective newsletters, websites, directories
and other publications

Facilitate
opportunities for constituent members of each organisation to benefit
from each other

MOU with Ministry of Social Development (MSD)
The
Ministry of Social Development, Te Manatu Whakahiato Ora, provides
strategic social policy advice to the New Zealand Government and provides
social services to more than one million New Zealanders. The MSD is
concerned with achieving excellent employment and social outcomes for New
Zealanders by ensuring people achieve economic independence throughout
their working lives so that they are able to contribute to society and
have a sense of belonging. Partnerships with Maori organisations form an
important part of Work and Income’s social development approach with
regional service delivery being an essential operating requirement.
The
Memorandum of Understanding between NZ Mâori Tourism Council & ITOC
was signed in February 2006 in Wellington and is an expression by both
organisations to work together so that:

Each
parties’ respective national strategies are given practical effect
through the delivery of support services at a regional level by their
respective regional organisations to Maori in tourism;
-
Coordinated
support and encouragement is provided to the parties’ respective
regional organisations to work together to assist Maori to achieve
sustainable jobs and enterprises in the tourism sector;
-
Project
investment is able to be provided at a regional level through the
Enterprising Communities Grants and Local Industry Partnership Programmes;
and
-
Regions
share information on their investment successes and learning experiences
in order to foster a culture of best practise in the regions.
